Portraits for Valuation Magazine
If you meet Rodman Schley and ask him, “what do you do for a living,” be prepared for a long answer. Rodman is a national TV host, a keynote speaker, a serial entrepreneur, real estate expert, and published author. Phew! Oh wait, I forgot to add television producer.
His expertise in real estate is what caught the attention of The Appraisal Institute, which produces Valuation Magazine, a monthly publication for real estate appraisers.
Rodman is based in Denver where I live and does a lot of valuation work for commercial real estate properties in the area. When I received the assignment, the only instruction I was given was that Rodman worked with a lot of environmentally sustainable properties. So I called up Rodman to find out more about him. He described himself as someone with modern tastes and wanted to do something a little different and cool for his portrait. To me, he came across a younger and hipper than his age might suggest.
After that conversation I set about researching location options, which, thanks to closures because of Covid, quickly got narrowed down to one — Taxi. Taxi is a 95,000 square foot LEED certified building complex for businesses in the RiNo neighborhood in Denver. It’s a place where Rodman has done a significant amount of valuation work. It’s also very modern with interesting angles, textures, and colors. Perfect.
Rodman met me over there last Friday and with his help I managed to come away with four options for the magazine. Which is your favorite?
