Behind the Scenes: My Photoshoot for IGT’s Colorado Lottery Contract Renewal

I recently photographed a project in Pueblo, Colorado, for IGT — the company that supplies and maintains machines for the Colorado Lottery. The images were part of a contract renewal proposal, and the goal was to show not only the machines but also the broader impact the lottery has on the community.

The shoot took me to grocery stores and gas stations, where technicians were servicing machines and employees were using them in their daily work. These were busy environments, so I had to work quickly, using mostly available light with just a touch of my own. Efficiency was key.

One of my favorite stops was a pickleball court in Pueblo funded by the lottery. To capture the energy of the game while keeping faces anonymous, I shot with a shallow depth of field — focusing on motion and mood instead of identity. The images had a lively, playful feel that worked perfectly for the project.

In the end, the photos helped IGT tell a bigger story: not just machines in stores, but the people who keep them running and the communities that benefit from them. A challenging project, but a rewarding one.
