Behind the Lens: Capturing Coke & Guac with Seattle’s Blitz
Commercial photography has a way of keeping you on your toes. One day, you’re shooting cocktails in a swanky hotel, and the next, you’re capturing a unique moment with Blitz—the Seattle Seahawks’ mascot—making guacamole and enjoying a Coke. This shoot was all about blending Coca-Cola’s brand with the fun, laid-back vibe of a mascot in the kitchen.
The setup for this shoot was simple—a bright, homey space that allowed Blitz to dive into the guacamole-making process. As a photographer, I had to stay flexible, letting the moments unfold naturally while ensuring everything stayed on brand. The key was balancing the playful energy of Blitz with the iconic imagery of a Coke can, all while making sure the lighting felt casual and inviting.
Lighting played a crucial role in keeping the vibe just right. I used a mix of natural and soft artificial light to keep things polished but not overly staged. The focus was on capturing Blitz interacting with the guacamole ingredients and the Coke can, making sure both popped in the frame without overshadowing the overall feel of the shoot.
Post-production is where the photos really came together. My goal was to keep the colors fresh and vibrant—the green of the guacamole and the red of the Coke can needed to shine. It’s all about making the images eye-catching for a campaign while maintaining that natural, fun atmosphere.
At the end of the day, commercial photography is about storytelling through images. This shoot was a great example of how even a casual moment, like making guac with a mascot, can be transformed into something visually engaging and on-brand.
